LeicaLad - how many bikes is your "limit"? At my house, one bike is one over the limit.

Chas - how can you look at these craigslist photos and tell what type of crank it has? When I try to enlarge it, it just doesn't have any resolution. You always seem to be able to see the details. ...

The sheldonbrown write up is very interesting - how there have been changes as to what point of the pedal stroke aligns with the higher or lower ratio. And it's effect on the knees.

TdF's pop up all the time for sale. Another idea for you would be a mixte frame. Do a google search on Gitane Mixte to see some pictures.

Ouch. Might try a band wrench around the hub. You don't want to scarf it up, but as Chas says, it has to come off. Good luck!

I sanded a Cinelli stem to fit my TdF years ago. I don't remember it taking a lot of sanding. I wouldn't use a file as you could "flat side" the stem by taking too much off. Wrap the sand ...

I considered nailpolish remover, but thought it would damage the paint. I'll try it in a spot that already needs touching up.

The other alternative is to put on another piece of white tape.
