Hey - are these two the same? My severly faded early 70's Gitane says SERV… COURSE on the top tube. Those are all the letters i can make out. The bike has campy drop outs and head set. I'm looking into repainting and getting the decals correct however all i see available is SUPER CORSA. So is that the same as a Service Course? If so, why the name confusion? Thank you! |

Gitane used the "Service Course" decals on all of their performance and racing models between 1968 and the end of 1973.
It was hype to promote the "racing bike" image, nothing more.
Sounds like you have a 1968 to 1973 Gitane Super Corsa model. They came with all Campagnolo components except for MAFAC brakes.
A few Super Corsas did come from the factory with Campagnolo brakes but most were installed by Mel Pinto the US importer, the owner or the bike shop that sold the bike. |
