Here is the typical headbadge you see from time to time on French Ebay.

Has anyone actually seen one affixed to a bicycle? All of the Gitanes that I have seen (those from the 1960's and after) always use "sticker" headbadges...but I have seen these on Gitane motorcycles, though.

So the question is: Did Gitane ever use tin/aluminum headbadges on their bicycles? Does anyone have any proof (i.e. visual!)?

I have been looking for a head badge and decals for my bike. I found these:
http://www.velocals.com/servlet/the-108/1970-GITANE-Grand-Sport/Detail

but I find them not particularly appealing. Are there any other sources for decals out there?

Where can I find a head badge as above?

First, I'll answer my own question, albeit some years later:

Yes, they did use them on bicycles.

Second, as to where to find them:
I have one (now a wall decoration), but you have to find them from time to time on ebay. No one makes them. As for decals, check "Cyclomondo" on ebay. He has made high-quality Gitane decal reproductions in three different varieties. Here is a link to his ebay store, which is currently empty for some reason:
http://stores.ebay.com/Cyclomondo/

He doesn't have any decals up right now, but send him a message, and he might respond (he may be on holiday or something).

I found one of these on ebay.fr. Hopefully I can grab it. Any tips for cleaning it up and restoring the colors?

Wow, that looks really cool. How did you attach it to the head tube?

Apologies for the crappy iphone pic, it actually looks nicer in person.

It's definitely not perfect, but I am pretty happy with it.

It started out looking worse than the first pic posted in this thread.

This was the process:

1. After I got it in the mail, I promptly threw it in a cup with coca cola to remove some of the corrosion, which was not as successful as I had hoped.

2. Plenty of goof-off to get rid of the old crusty paint, dirt, and corroded junk; file off the sharp edges where the rivets had been ripped out.

3. Trip to the hobby store. Acquired model paints, brushes.

4. Slow, methodical 4 hour process to fill in the colors. Cure for a week, touch up anything that wasnt satisfactory.

5. A couple of coats of clear spray paint, cure again.

6. Epoxy to the powder coat.

7. PROFIT!
