Stronglight 99 cranks first appeared about 1974. They have a range from 28T up.

There were 2 versions of the cranks. The originals were highly polished and very nicely made like the model 93 cranks.

The second generation cranks are anodized and aren't finished as well. They resemble the less expensive SR that appeared in the late 70s for touring bikes.

If you have Stronglight cranks, all that you need is a 123mm, 124mm or 125mm Stronglight BB spindle.

Both the SR and 99 cranks use 86mm BCD chainrings and they are interchangeable.

The other classic triple cranks is the TA Cyclotouriste model. They have a 26T small chainring.

I've ovalized several TA 26T chainrings honking up steep hills at slow speeds.

TA and Stronglight cups and BB spindles are somewhat interchangeable.

I recommend 28T, 30T or 32T small chainrings as they are easier to upshift.

Also you will need a long arm rear derailleur and a front derailleur with a deep cage to cover the spread.

Here are the Stronglight crankset specs. Most can be configured as a triple. The addition of longer chain ring bolts, and as Chas. stated a longer spindle will get you a period triple.

I've had a 93 triple on one of my TdF's in the past. It really helped having the 38 tooth chain ring.

I can remember in the late seventies when Palo Alto Bike shop was doing upscale catalog mail order and they sold that Stronglight stuff up and down the line. About $65 a crank when Campy NR was just over a Hundred.

I've also got a set of TA cyclotourist in 180MM length that I wouldn't mind liquidating. And eBay just plain disgusts me these days too.
