Hello,
I just bought this Gitane on Craigslist and I have a few questions. I'm not completely sure of the model year and if this is the original paint. The 1970 catalogue, shows color options for the, Grand Sport Deluxe, but it doesn't show a brown. Thank you in advance for all of the help.

Welcome to the Forum...
First off, the most important parts of a bike with regards to identifying it are or drive side (right side). If you can post a picture of the other side, that will make identifying the model easier. |

My apologies, here are some pictures of the drive side and other components.

The frame is probably a European model from around 1968. The half chrome forks and rear stays don't match any bikes in the available catalogs.
The wheels and derailleurs are from the early 80's so are not original. |

It's probably one tier up from the entry level models which usually didn't have any chrome plating.

I would have never thought it would be that old! Do you think that the brown and orange color scheme is original? In the areas that are chipped it is bare metal, no other paint layers below, but it could be a re-spray. Thank you for all of your help and knowledge on Gitane's. |

No, it would have been a solid brown color with foil decals.
Like this except brown:
Those are really old MAFAC brakes and fork crown wasn't used on the lower end models. It may be a mid 60's better quality model bike. |
