1969 Gitane Tour de France 54cm Center to Top.
I bought this bike from an LBS in December, 2008. They sold it new in 1969 and had serviced it during the 1970's and 80's.
It was a "barn bike" that had been sitting in storage for at least 20 years and had a thick layer of crud on it. See first picture below.
I stripped it down to the bare frame, checked the alignment, refaced the BB, head tube an fork plus reamed and honed the seat tube and replaced all the bearings with loose grade 25 chrome steel balls.
The rims and hubs were polished and the hubs overhauled. All of the other parts were polished and lubed too.
Everything is original except for a Simplex seatpost and Simplex Competition front derailleur (as used on Peugeot PX-10s), Ideale 80 saddle, 45cm wide Nitto bars, new cables and housing plus sewup tires.
The chrome is very good but the paint was rough. I did a lot of touch up so it passes the 5 or 10 foot test.

When you say, "Pivo stem - modified for safety " what did you do exactly? |
