Just bought yesterday, this pretty GITANE all REYNOLDS 531, with MAFAC competition brakes, CAMPAGNOLO drops and shimano headset, the derailleurs are not originals, the triple crankset was an option...
I presume it is a 1978 NATION or TROPHEE ...
What is the meaning of the three blue stars on the post 1977 logo ?

The bikes with red stars were made for the communist East Bloc countries...
Bikes with a red square at the top of the Gitane seat tube sticker have red stars on the down tubes. All the ones I've seen pictures were on Gitane team bleu painted frames.
It looks like the silver and gold bikes had bleu squares and stars.
Between 1976 and the early 200's, very few Gitanes were imported into the US so there probably wasn't a North American catalog for those years. |
