I'd say the membership card is pretty special Paul. Is the club still going?

I wonder if there is, or was, a club each for Bernard and Greg?

Nice pieces.

I really have no idea. I got the card on ebay for 0.40 euro. It really has someone else's name on it. I just dragged it into MS paint and doctored it up a bit Wink . Anyone else want one? Razz

But it's pretty cool, yeah?

As far as a GL fan club is concerned, I think most of the would be members hang out here anyway.

Here's a little story about Laurent Fignon...

In the late 80's/early 90's my father did try to build a pro cycling team (that lead later to the building of the catavana team where kelly & madiot ended their careers). Anyway, he tried a few deals here & there.

He came up with the idea of having Laurent Fignon wear lenses instead of glasses, being sponsored by Bosch & Lomb to do so. So Bosch & Lomb hired my father to meet Laurent Fignon and cut the deal. That's how we've had Laurent Fignon at home for breakfast ! (he only took an orange juice).

That was a bit surreal, to say the least, having Laurent Fignon seated on our couch...I was very impressed and not able to speak for the whole thing. I just managed to ask for an autograph (I since lost). And Fignon was very reluctant as to alter his image. He was one of the only riders to wear glasses, that was his trademark. So I guess not enough $$$ were on the table.

That's pretty much it.

What do you mean, that's it? That's an awesome story nicolas!

I do wonder though if his reluctance was more for practical reasons? I raced a bit with Robbie McEwen in my younger days, and he wears contact lenses. But I always found them to be unbearable on the bike. Your eyes get really dry and scratchy etc etc. I also think that the lenses themselves were not as good back in the 80's.

Did you try to set up Fignon on a date with your sister or something?
Could have asked him if he had a spare Delta lying around somewhere.... Rolling Eyes

you know, when I think about all the opportunities to connect with thoses people back then : Hinault, Lemond, Fignon, they were all pretty accessible ! Now it's waaay more complicated.

Ah, I thought that was your membership card, Paul. Looks good though.

Terrific stories. I'm just a cycling fan and never came close to any of the riders in these superb ways, only if I happened to see them near me when at a race or as they flew by on the road. Thanks for sharing.
