Forgive me if I've missed a conversation on this in the past - but isn't it sad that Gitane doesn't seem to be represented in today' pro circuit. With such a storied past it would be great to see Gitane's out on the peloton again.

Thoughts on why CycleEurope doesn't seem to be more agressive in getting their equipment recognized. I know they have no presence in the U.S. and have focused on Bianchi in that market - but, come on, it's Gitane.

Yeah, we did talk this one to death a while ago, but don't feel bad 'cause we all like to talk things to death again, and again, and again........ Wink

You actually answered your own question. CycleEurope does market their product towards the high end market. They label that product 'Bianchi". They also like to maket towards the mid and low end market, and believe (rightly or wrongly) that the Gitane label is the best way to meet that demand.

We are living at the end of a very prosperous period in the western nations. During this period, money has been relatively easy to come by. As a result, the average punter has been able to afford a lot of "luxuries". Therefore the brands with the elite reputations have been popular. ie the colnagos, bianchis, pinarellos, etc. Gitane was always the no frills bike for the rider on a budget.

As we head into recession throughout the west, we might just see big companies marketing a more 'value for money' product. That is, we might see a pro team on Gitanes to prove that the budget bike is indeed as good as the flashy bike, but without the frills and big price tag. Let's hope.

Oh, and by the way, I really like the way you have listed your bikes in your signature. I think I'll do the same.

Hmmmm. Now, I wonder who would have the biggest signature? Twisted Evil Chas, Sandman, or Lofter?

From an old C&W song:

"Faster Horses, Younger Women, Older Whiskey"

(My last gasp as I'm now over 65 and soon to be poor) Laughing
