Beautiful bike...I would ride it! That is what the bike was made for. |

What a magnificent bike. Do you have more details about it? History, colour, era, components? The decals I know!
Why own such a machine and not ride it? I often wonder about people who own things but do not show the world their pride in the purpose. And this machine is ever so elegant.
I am green with ...

Beautiful bike!
If it were mine, and I lived near a track I'd ride it on the track but not on the road.
The geometry of track bikes were designed for extremely quick responses to avoid other bikes on the smooth surfaces of a cycle racing track.
The short wheelbase, steep angles and short fork rake end up being having a very harsh ride with "twitchy" handling on the road. I rode 1/2 a century on a track bike once.
Regardless of what the FADDIST fixie rider candidates for the Darwin Award do, track bikes were made for riding on the tracks!

When I recommended riding it...I meant on the track. I should have been specific. I have a 1983/84 Kilo. It has NEVER ridden on the road...only on the boards of the velodrome. |

In the end, it is your bike, you will rightly do with it what you want. I don't ride fixed gears, so don't know about that whole deal....
I would recommend that you ride the bike. No sense in just looking at it! |

I have ridden on the track (quite a lot a few years ago), but don't consider that really "fixed gear" riding, but rather "track" riding. "Fixed gear" riding is on the road...I think.
You will love the track. It is a ton of fun. I am lucky enough to live near the Carson velodrome, which is a 250m wood oval. Really nice.
What velodrome is near you? |

Hi PPPPP,
I spent too much on ebay for this Jersey, but I do like to wear it when out on show with the repaint 1978 Interclub.
I do not ride track, but if you have a day out with others to admire your machine, regardless of where it is, it always makes you aware of our great good fortune in being able to indulge ourselves so.
Cheers,
OwenL |
