So I just got a 84' gitane kilo track bike. I love it, but have heard other people say "ewww french threading". Is the bottom bracket different threading from todays stuff? it all looks the same. I am wanting to put a chris king 1" threaded headset in shortly as well as maybe a campy record track set of cranks with this stuff work? thanks for your time,

The people who say that...are misinformed, at best!
I have a Kilo, and it is a GREAT track bike.
Regarding the threading, Gitane switched to standard English threading in the early 1980's. Your Kilo should have standard threads. To confirm, check the bottom bracket "fixed" cup. If it is reverse threaded, like all bikes nowadays, then it is standard english thread. If not...then it is French threaded. However, even if it is French (which I doubt), parts are still available in abundance.
Post some pics of your bike here when you are done!
Also, what velodrome are you on? |
