Whenever I think of Jan Ullrich, I recall the time he waited for Armstrong when Armstrong got tangled up with a spectator on a climb. Whatever other wrong and foolish things he has done, it always leaves a good memory of him.

Contador had the opportunity to behave chivalrously, and passed it up. I can't say he was really wrong, since it is a race, and he didn't break any rules, but he cheapened his yellow jersey.

In the 1971 TdF Luis Ocaņa was the race leader until he was involved in a crash with Eddy Merckx. Merckx took over the lead by default because Ocaņa had to drop out.

Merckx refused to wear the yellow jersey the following day in tribute to Ocaņa and was going to drop out of the Tour until persuaded to continue.

For Contador to have done 'the right thing', he would need to be a mature, intelligent rider with panache. Contador is none of those things. I struggle to imagine him doing anything other than attack. These buggers only whinge and protest when it is in their own self interest. Not for the sake of good sportsmanship.
