Hi everyone. The bike I painstaking restored over the winter with the goal of make a Gitane as nice and as "French" as possible is for sale.

My job is in the tank and I need to make some stuff go away to make ends meet.

I have only ridden it 3 times since it was done as I ride my other bike all the time.

I makes no sense for me to have this hanging on my wall as a piece of art.

Selling that really has to hurt.

I'm two bikes over my limit (according to my wife).

Your bike shows a wonderful and painstaking attention to detail. It is very, very nice.

Good luck.

Wow, that's one nice bike.

LeicaLad - how many bikes is your "limit"? At my house, one bike is one over the limit.

I have a loving and forgiving wife, but we live in a tiny apartment. We're in "relocation mode" having returned to live in the US after years abroad. Big houses for years, now I have 13,000 lbs in storage.

I have two bikes in storage, one hanging in our small bedroom (and one on the way that she doesn't yet know about!). I'm overseas now. I'm timing the arrival of the new frame to hit the front door just a day or two before I do. And then I just hope that she'll be sufficiently pleased to see me... that she'll forgive yet another bike... !!!!

Fortunately, my wife is understanding or, maybe just tolerant. All of my stuff stays over in the shop so for her it's out of sight. Comes in kind of handy for "hiding" bike stuff. Wink

Wife Acceptance Factor

At the end of the 70s I had about 10 bikes - half of them were clunkers that I had acquired.

My former live together fiancée started hinting something to the effect that either the bikes had to go or she would!

A less than subtle "Sheesh, I'm gonna miss you" ended that conversation.

In reality, what she wanted was for me to sell some bikes to several of her girlfriends!

Words sometimes have unintended consequences. In the end, I fixed up and got rid of some clunkers plus I sold my Bertin C34 road bike, the one that I'd put the most miles on.

Sheesh, I wish I still had that bike! Crying or Very sad

Funny to hear the wife stories...I'm in the same boat and as I'm not putting enough miles on the Gitane, it'll have to go...

She's very similar to the one above, but instead of being fully restored, it's in lightly used original condition.

My one is here in Barcelona/Spain and it was bought from a French collector in a flea-market in Imola/Italy a couple of years ago.

More information here: http://rodafixa.blogspot.com/2010/10/gitane-tour-de-france-racing-team-1976.html

You're welcome to point out any mistake on the description. Smile

Please PM me if interested.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I'm willing to do a special arrangement in the price for forum users...I'm not sure yet how much postage will be to Continental USA, but I'm sure we could arrange an "all included" price in USD.
