I think this tdf is 1972 or 1971 as I bought it new in 1972 (but could have been early 1973). I rode it lots back in 73-75 and then got tires a few years ago but did not do much more with it. Retired now and looking to get some cables and started but no real idea how to begin. I am not very experienced with bike repairs so I will struggle thru this process.

Any hints and facts are welcome. I am in the SF Bay Area.

Welcome, Jay. I think it's a '72. Earlier ones have a different style of attaching the seat stays to the seat tube, and later ones don't have the bridge for the rear brake cable brazed on the seat stays. Chas may have more info. In fact my info is from him.

My favorite source of bike repair info is the late Sheldon Brown's website. I would usually google "sheldon brown bottom bracket," for example if I wanted to find out how to disassemble, clean, etc. the bottom bracket. You can also pot any specific questions you run into on the "vintage" forum.
