Hi all,
I've recently bought my first road bike and it's a Gitane but since I'm new to all of this, I was wondering if you guys could help me find out what the actual model is, I've tried doing some research but didn't find much.
I've attached some pictures below.
Thanks!

Hate to be the bearer of bad news... breaker of hearts but it's not a Gitane.
It's some kind of early 70's bike boom model that was made in Italy. Someone threw some Gitane stickers on it.
The bike seems to have been cobbled together with all kinds of parts.
That doesn't make it a bad bike... just a "bastartdo"
Ride and enjoy it.
Come back when you've become addicted and have a real Gitane...
BTW, when posting photos, be sure to show the right side of the bike with the drive train. That's the important area that will tell us a lot more about the bike. |

I am going to go ahead and disagree with Chas. (!)
This is a Canadian built Gitane. That's why you have had such a hard time figuring out what it is. These were built in a small town outside of Montreal (La Guadeloupe). The head tube decal is the giveaway. Very rare, but not really worth much because they were all "entry level" bikes. Not sure about the quality or the geometry. I believe the manufacturer bought the right to sell these bikes as Gitane in Canada. I think that's the only relation to Gitane in France. |
