I have a pic now. Its a 27 inch and a large frame, It has a titanium crank and most parts are original. Its been in my basement for 20 years unused so it needs maintenance and tuning. It was in good condition when stored. A rim was replaced, tires, tubes, some derailer plastic gears, a chain link, and a few small items I don't recall. I need a range of prices to see if it is worth selling to someone who wants to keep it. I don't ride anymore. Thanks, Joe. Without more information a guesstimate would be somewhere between $10.00 and $150.00. The Interclub was Gitane's entry level amateur racing model. Does the bike have foil decals or plastic film decals? Foil decals 1968-1974 (worth about $100 max) Film decals 1974-1976 (worth $150 max) BTW, the cranks would be steel on the early models and aluminum on the later ones. I am 6-2. No takers on craigs list in 3 weeks now. $50. I would prefer it to have a good home instead of junk yard. The crank is NOT titanium... It's cast aluminum. The pedals aren't titanium either! Titanium was rarely used for cranks or pedals because of the expense - probably more than 2-3 times the price of the bike when new. Some very high end full bore racing bikes had titanium spindles on the axles of the cranks and pedals but they were rare and tended to break! Fignon with broken titanium BB spindle. Gitane made yellow Interclubs between 1974 and 1976. If your bike has dropouts like these odd looking Huret Honeycomb style then it a 74-76 model. If they look like these that it's a 1973 or older bike. 1976 Interclub with aluminum cranks. With some half way decent pictures you may be able to get a lot more than $50... _________________ Chas. I don't know why I think titanium except perhaps it has titanium stamped in it or else cast. I'll go look at it today. I looked yesterday and it says MAXY Forged F 171 I think. Where would it have markings showing it was titanium? Thanks. The folks in Japan came up a marketing concept that they called "melt forged" which was merely pressure CAST or die CAST aluminum - zero, nada, no forging involved! I don't know of ANY titanium cranks that came on production model bikes. There were some titanium cranksets made in the 1980's and 90's but they were used on expensive high end MTB, road and BMX bikes built up from bare frames. The cost of a titanium crankset would have been at least as expensive as your whole bike, maybe twice as expensive!!! I have a background in metal working and metallurgy plus over 50 years of experience with derailleur bikes. Excuse me for sounding curt but I get testy when someone strongly asserts stuff about things they may be unfamiliar with. I'm here to help and share what I know... AS I mentioned you may be able to sell the bike for $150 or more with a little more effort on your part. Also February and March are not the best time of the year to sell a bike - weather and all. Some good pictures plus details about the bike can make it more desirable to a potential buyer... _________________ Chas. I do remember seeing titanium on that crank sometime. I googled and found a few from that period that were similar but no details. Perhaps some bike shop swapped it out at some point. Since it is a high dollar item I should check into it to be sure. It would be a titanium alloy anyway. You need a picture to tell I am sure. I appreciate all the details and information. Joe.
