This week is finally upgrade week for Gumby. I will have a wheel built round my NOS Shimano 7 speed hub to try to bring some order to my Gitane. I will also be getting a new wheel.

Plan was to put yellow tires on the bike to match the Performance graphic and bar tape. Now considering admitting that my bike will never be 1985 accurate and getting the Velocity Aerohead wheels in yellow.

Something like this http://www.yellowjersey.org/photosfromthepast/ANEX1.JPG

Thoughts?

I have to say that I'm not a big fan of coloured rims, but that Tommaso doesn't look bad. We've been using Velocity rims here for years now, and they are certainly a good, durable & practical choice. (Even if they are a bit weighty) Not 100% sure about the lighter yellow though. Have you got a lighter shade yellow bar tape? Some of the modern selle italia saddles come in a light yellow too.

Another note: I might have a line on a shimano 'sante' rear hub if you're interested. Are you using a screw on freewheel or a 7 speed cassette?

Thanks for your thoughts. After I posted, I began to think it was a bit "does this bag go with this belt," but who knows?

I have Velocity Aeroheads on another non-Gitane bike and like them quite a bit. The shop that built my bike prefers them to Open Pro, better price, a touch lighter and they have the rear offset which is great for 10 speeds.

I bought a 7 speed cassette hub on Ebay NOS. I will use that. I may just have them rebuild the original Mavic I have now, then the issue is finding a suitable front wheel.

Bar tape is lemon yellow -- real bright.
