Last update : July 26th, 2010:
It's been a while... almost a full year, actually.
A busy year for our man Greg who started twitting, blogging, facebooking... lots of insights, check them out.
Greg recently spoke about breaking is collarbone on Liège Bastogne Liège 1982, the pics are here among a special focus on years 80-81-82.
I was planning on opening a new section containing written words. I'm afraid my english is not good enough to express my point of view as I'd like. I might try this in french in the future... what do you think ?
That's it for this summer, contributions welcome, as always... |

I think it's a great idea, Nicolas.
We need to get an interview with Lemond like you did with Hinault. |

Somewhere, sometime...... we were discussing the geo of Greg's bikes. Like all pros, I'm sure his set up changed over the years as he developed his own style, then again as he aged.
Here is the set up of the purple/yellow bike he used in 1990. Badged as a LeMond.
TVT Carbon frame
Seat Tube: 550mm c-c
Top Tube: 570mm c-c
Seat Tube Angle: 72.5*
Head Tube Angle: 73*
Fork Rake: 45mm
Cranks 175mm
Stem 125mm
Bars: Cinelli 66/44 |

Interesting - 57 cm top tube (on a 55cm frame) combined with 125mm stem is some serious reach. I think I'd be really uncomfortable stretched out that far. I have a little longer torso but find that the 55 cm top tube is most comfortable for me. Combined top tube + stem on my bikes tends to fall somewhere around 64.5 to 66 cm. |

Keep in mind that he was 26 and a pro racer at the time. I bet he rides a bit shorter now. |

I always felt he looked really hunched over especially when climbing. In fact, while watching the 1989 Tour highlights during my winter training again his posture on the bike stuck out. Now I know why. |

I'd read several places that GL rode frames with 55cm C-T-C seat tubes and 57cm C-T-C top tubes.
That's the dimensions on the 2 Billato built Lemond Team-Z replicas that I have plus that's what I saw on the Della Santa frame specification drawing for Greg's Della Santa Team-Z frames. |

He said in the article that these measurement were developed during his time at Renault with Guimard. So I assume that his Gitanes were much the same. |

I'd like to see those replicas !
This geometry explains a lot in terms of style... I wonder if Mottet shared some of these specs because he, too, seemed to be this way. |

Wall hanger, never touched the ground, signed by GL on the left side of the top tube!
About 200 miles on it. The original owner had the seat up that high. I'll probably take it out for a short ride someday and then it will become a wall hanger too.
The colors were different between the original Della Santa bikes and the later Billato bikes. The Della Santas had dark blue on top and red on the bottom. The Billatos were light blue on the bottom.
